Aurora was exiled to the country to live with her aunt after being caught in a compromising position. However now her stepmother needs her help in uncovering the identity of a blackmailer. Rory needs to solve this mystery fast as her sister is about to secure a marriage to wealthy, titled husband who will not accept any hint of scandal to his future bride’s name.
The man believed to be the blackmailer is the distant and reserved Lucas Vale, the Marquess of Dashell. Rory doesn’t believe it is possible for someone as honourable as Lucas to be capable of blackmail but she starts to investigate him nonetheless. She gets a job in his household to be closer to him and to look for clues. But the more time she spends working for Lucas, the more she starts to see him as more than just a cold aristocrat.
I liked how Lucas seemed to transform from aloof and cold to a warm person. He had great character development and I fell in love with him just as Rory did. Lucas and Rory were an adorable couple and I loved that Lucas had always had feelings for her. This was a well-written book with an intriguing mystery which I enjoyed immensely. I recommend to all fans of historical fiction and mystery novels.
