Fiction Friday: Book Review- Blood Truth by J.R Ward

Blood Truth by J.R. Ward

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
After the death of his (awful) father, Boone is assigned to investigate a series of murders with Butch, a former homicide cop. Their investigation leads them to Helaine, the female who called in the latest murder and who has lost her sister to the vicious killer.
Helaine is determined to catch her sister’s murderer however there are no leads.
It isn’t long before Helaine and Boone start a relationship amidst their shared grief over their lost family members.
This was the first time I could remember being more excited about a mystery than the romance in the book.
From the very first page, the murder mystery drew me in and I almost didn’t care about Helaine and Boone (luckily their relationship was cute so I was eventually invested in it).
This was a great read that I did not enjoy as much as I could have because about 100 pages in, I was exhausted (it was 11PM), I had work the next day and so decided to skip to the end. That spoiled the experience for me.
HUGE MISTAKE! DO NOT DO THIS!
But do read this book.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Rich vampire aristocrat, Peyton accidentally causes his teammate Novo to be attacked in battle. As Novo tries to recover from her brutal injuries, Peyton realises that he might have feelings for her. Feelings that have more to do with his heart than his body. Peyton has always found Novo attractive but as they spend time together, he starts to realise that he wants a future with her. However Novo is carrying painful scars from her past and refuses to let anyone in. The last time Novo fell in love, the vampire left her pregnant and moved on to her sister. Peyton knows that Novo is hiding some sort of hurt but he is determined to help her through it.
Meanwhile Saxton find an attraction to Ruhn, a new and reserved member of the household. Saxton and Ruhn was an odd pairing but I loved them together. Originally I was only interested in this book for Peyton and Novo. However their relationship seemed more of an “instant love” thing and I soon got bored. Despite that, I really enjoyed this book. I never grow tired of the world-building and the characters in this novel. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance or fantasy.

Fiction Friday: Book Review- Blood Vow by J.R Ward (Black Dagger Legacy #2)

I just got out of a book slump and this book was everything that I didn’t know I was looking for. There’s romance, action, drama, suspense and vampires (which if you didn’t already know, I absolutely love). The world-building was incredible and I loved that even though this was the first book that I read in the series I still understood the culture and rules of this society. “Blood Vow” has several stories combined in it. The main story focuses on two couples: Axe and Elise and Rhage and Mary. Axe and Elise have a fierce attraction between them but Axe has sworn off any kind of relationship. Also there’s the not-so-tiny problem about him being her bodyguard. On the other hand, Rhage and Mary are a happily married couple who are in the process of adopting a little girl. Their lives are seemingly perfect until a threat appears that could tear them apart (sorry, I’m trying not to spoil anything and it’s pretty difficult for me). I didn’t feel like this book had much in terms of plot. Like I expected there to be a great big evil force that everyone would come together and fight. However I still really enjoyed this book and the characters. I’m going to be following this series. I love how the characters were like a family. This is a great read for anyone who loves fantasy.
