Recommended Reads: Tear- Jerkers

Every so often, you need a book that is going to make you bawl like a baby. Well, that’s what some people say. Me, personally, I don’t get it. I like happy books with happy endings. But sometimes there are books that leave me bawling and for some twisted reason, I adore them regardless. Here are some of my all-time favourite tear-jerkers:

1.Rainfall by Melissa Delport– “Rainfall” tells the story of Paige and Adam. The two fall deeply in love and are happy. Until the day Paige comes home to find Adam in bed with someone else. Worse still, Adam has no remorse for his actions. Paige wants nothing more to do with him until someone from his past visits her and shares a secret about Adam. This book tore me up so badly I have never read anything by Melissa Delport afterwards (not for lack of trying, I just…I can’t). I cried for three days after reading this book and while I personally hated it, it has countless fans so I’m listing it here regardless. Hey, maybe those people are more mentally stable than I am.

2.Me Before You by Jojo Moyes– “Me Before You” follows Louisa Clark as she takes a job as a caretaker for Will Traynor. Will is paralyzed from an accident and wants nothing more than to be dead- something he sees as a great relief. But the more time they spend together, the stronger the attachment between the two grows. Like “Rainfall”, this book had me depressed for days and it’s hard not to admire the power of words as you weep non-stop.

3. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover– Pretty much any Colleen Hoover book is guaranteed to make you cry but this one is one of the best. Lily is dating Ryle, a gorgeous neurosurgeon who is against relationships but somehow falls madly in love with her. But as their relationship takes a dark turn, Lily runs into Atlas, an old high school boyfriend. Atlas is the total opposite of Ryle and it isn’t long before Lily starts questioning who she is supposed to be with.

4. F*ck Love by Tarryn Fisher– Helena is in love with Kit. They’re perfect together. Except for the fact that he’s dating her best friend. This book was an emotional roller-coaster that I enjoyed immensely. Tarryn has a gift for writing twisted characters that you cannot help but love.

Fiction Friday: Thief by Tarryn Fisher (Love Me With Lies #3)

Thief (Love Me with Lies, #3)

Thief by Tarryn Fisher

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I actually cannot remember most of this novel (which is worrying considering that I spent so much time invested in this series).
“Thief” follows Caleb and Olivia in the aftermath of his divorce. Once again they are drawn together when Olivia and her husband start to have issues.
This was a sweet read that almost made up for all of the emotional strain the previous books put me through.
I especially enjoyed seeing how Caleb and Olivia have changed over the years. It is made clear that though they have made mistakes in the past, they have both grown from it.
This was a wonderfully emotional series that made me cry, rage and almost throw my cellphone across the room but I enjoyed it immensely.

Fiction Friday: Book Review- The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher (Love Me with Lies #1)

The Opportunist (Love Me with Lies, #1)The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

When Olivia discovers that her ex-boyfriend (and the love of her life), Caleb has lost his memory, she takes advantage of the situation to wriggle her way back in his life. However it isn’t long before Caleb’s girlfriend, Leah finds out about Olivia’s plans and decides to wreck them.
It took me over a month to read this book because the emotions were just too intense. This is a book about severely flawed characters who do bad things just to get their way. This was a pretty long read but I was really interested to see where Caleb and Olivia went wrong (and where Caleb and Leah went right). If you are looking for a compelling read with an intriguing plot and unforgettable characters, this is the book for you.
